Gingiva Trimmer Soft-Tissue Bur Set

Frank Dental Gingiva Trimmer soft-tissue bur (FD.GT48L) — ceramic tip for cutting soft tissue with a coagulation effect.

  • Purpose: cutting soft tissues
  • Working technique is the same as with a scalpel
  • Correct use can minimize bleeding during the procedure and may even lead to full coagulation
  • The coagulation effect is obtained by heating the ceramic cutting piece
  • Thanks to the special ceramic in the mounting section, heating is limited so blood vessels can close without causing thermal tissue necrosis

Application

  • Gingival modification (modeling, cutting) — trimming gingiva around a prepared tooth to obtain impressions with clearly readable margins
  • Tissue cut with this instrument regenerates very quickly
  • Uncovering implants
  • Uncovering unerupted teeth
  • Frenulum procedures in children

Recommendation

The shape of the cutting piece is patient-friendly and is not associated with the pain of a sharp instrument — especially important in young patients.

Use

  • The cutting surface should be as dry as possible; turn off the cooling spray. Even slight moisture can prevent the coagulation effect during cutting — before applying the instrument on the turbine, make sure no water remains at the tip
  • Clear fluids that accumulate in the mouth and protect the working area before continuing. During cutting, work like a scalpel in one direction only (returning reopens already closed blood vessels and causes bleeding)
  • Work on the side surface of the ceramic blade, not the tip. Cut at a 45° angle
  • Cutting should be 3–4 times slower than with a diamond instrument
  • Recommended speed: 300,000–500,000 rpm (higher speed increases effectiveness in stopping bleeding)
  • User note: the instrument is for soft tissues only and must not contact hard surfaces (e.g. bone); contact with a hard surface causes black burning of the ceramic tip
  • Blackening is not due to a loss of the instrument’s working performance
  • During disinfection and sterilization, stand the ceramic bur tip separately so it does not contact other metal instruments, which can affect the ceramic piece
